One advantage that kayaks have over float tubes are speed. This can be useful when thunderstorms approach.
I have been shocked once while float tubing the Tar River..I was 200 yds from the take-out. I had assumed in error that the river water was grounded and would be as safe in the water as I would on land. Has anyone been caught in a wicked thunderstorm in a yak or ever been shocked while in a yak?
