I was wondering if any of you had tried to haul a jon boat with a car. I've had my fun stomping around banks and shorelines but I'm thinking I want to upgrade from boots to a boat! I've got a 6 cylinder front wheel drive sedan rated to tow 1000lbs without trailer brakes, so I figure I can probably haul 500lbs or so without making a fool of myself at the boat ramp (car slipping into the drink, spinning tires, burning out the tranny).
Thinking about maybe trying to get a cheap 14' aluminum jon boat and just slap a trolling motor on it to keep weight down low and keep light on gear. I'm thinking about just sticking to the resevoirs (jordan, harris) or maybe someplace pokey like the Haw. Maybe if I don't have an engine I can just carry the boat to the water at a kayak launch?
Does that make sense or should I just wise up and wait until I can afford a truck in a few years, and just get a yak?
thanks all,
Matt
