It began as a early morning that soon turned into an afternoon. From dropping a car off at the dealership in Winston Salem, a short trip to Kernersville, then back to Winston Salem for grocery shopping and buying gifts for a baby shower. With everything that my wife wanted to do out the way it was finally time to go fishing!!! facesjump.gif
My wife knew I've been wanting to do some Catfishin lately so off to Badin we went. She kept saying it's "kinda windy" so I kept telling her "doesn't mean the fish won't bite" :p So first we had to go pick up the boat at her Mom's house and then we had to drop our son off at my Mom's...
While at my folk's house, I noticed Mom was making some type of soup and some type of meat product had caught my eyes. It was a beef heart yumyum.gif... there wasn't much of it and I asked Mom if I could cut a few pieces to experiment with :D
First we drove over Abbotts Creek, the water looked about normal and so did Flat Swamp. Once we got to Hwy 49 going over Tuckertown, it looked like chocolate milk and I was debating about to turning around but kept on truckin to the Old Whitney landing. We got there later than planned and the ramp was pretty busy, it was one boat after another in and out.

Because we weren't there for size, I felt like we didn't need too much bait. Plus we weren't planning to stay too long so I didn't throw the cast net but a few times and managed to keep about a dozen Gizzard Shad and tossed the skinny ones back. Within the mix, there was only one Threadfin Shad. Then off to one of my favorite spots where I lost an anchor years ago.
We got there and had set out five rods and the water was slowly turning into chocolate milk. The first bite came within minutes but didn't get a hookup. So there was a live Threadfin on one, a piece of beef hearts on another and chunks of cut shad on the rest. The rod with the Threadfin went down but no hookup either! So I made a small two hook rig with a couple of size 6 hooks to see if there were any white perch around. I also began tying the two ultralight rods for Bluegills thinking that we might not have the right bait. Not long after, the bait clicker starts ticking and there was a fish on! Guess he didn't know he was hooked til he got closer to the boat. We landed it and it was a nice sized Channel.

The bite was silent for a bit and I was thinking about chasing some bluegills for bait with some sandwich bread. Then all of a sudden the rod with beef hearts started twitching. I figured it was a small fish til the rod started bowing from where it was at. Fought it for a bit and saw it surface, it was a little nice Blue!!! Looks like I've added a new bait to my list!

So the bite was steady for a good half hour, we landed a 'few' more and lost count. My wife managed to land her first Blue and I caught a picture of her in action while she was battling a really nice sized Channel on 8lb test!

My wife doesn't like to catch Catfish as much as I do but it sure seems like she had a blast! We ended up with nine nice Cats and got home close to 11 last night. Most of the fish were given away and we kept my wife's Blue for some nuggets :D
