Since I'm working over the holiday weekend and the DH season is drawing to a close, I decided to head out to my local water this afternoon for a little troutin'. Brought the longrod along as well as my regular spinning gear. Water was still up and lightly stained. Started with a y2k on the fly but had no takers. Caught a couple of brookies on the spinning gear using a trout magnet. Went back to the fly rod and tied on a flashback prince nymph. This was the ticket, landed 2 more brookies and a small brown. 2nd hole yielded another 1/2 dozen fish, all on the trout magnet. Landed 7 more small ones at the third spot with the trout magnet then switched back to the flyrod to work the shallow tailwater of the hole. I was richly rewarded as I caught another 8 fish including another small brown, a 14" brookie and a 16" bow that completed my first ever flyrod slam. Didn't have much time in the 4th hole and only got 4 more. However, I had a really big fish on the flyrod but it came up and threw the fly. Looked to be in the 20"-22" range. Any of you guys that have trout fished with me know this last spot, the 'rock' hole. Maybe somebody can get this beast before all the 'corn chuckers' come out next week.
