Declining water quality on the Fisher River?

When I started paddling/fishing a few years back one of the places I went quite a few times was the Fisher river.
I liked it because of the remoteness and hardly ever seeing anyone while out there.
It ran clear most of the summer, unless a big storm came along.
In the last two years I've only done a couple of floats on it, but began noticing that it didnt run clear after a good period of no rain, and yesterday (it had about 5 days to clear) it was still pretty stained. Also many of the rocks had mud and scum on them.

you can see the stain on the water in this picture (also that it's got some cool rock features)

This section you put in to the fisher and take out of the yadkin.
The fishing was very slow on the fisher. I know that it was only one day, but I do see a trend of the water quality and river diminishing over time.
When we got to the Yadkin, it looked great! (fish were biting pretty good also)

Anybody have any thoughts on any upstream construction, deforestation, bad farming practices that may be affecting this river?
