As usual made it to Beaufort a bit late. Was out of the inlet by 8:45 and tried the new Bama rig, a five Clarkspoon lure, along with two mackerel trees and a single Clarkspoon lure. No luck on top but the lures with weight got hits. Ended up with 4 Spanish with the largest at 19 inches and 3 blues. The Bama rig produced nothing and all the other fish were caught on the Mackerel trees. We had one quick run on the single Clarkspoon. The shoal area to the west of the inlet chanel was where we caught everything, near the breaking waves in about 6-8 feet of water.

By 10:00 the bite was gone so we headed to AR315 and anchored at one of the small structures SE of the main marker. Caught some very small Sea Bass and managed to put a pinfish on a King rig and floated him out the back. About an hour later the balloon burst and away we go. I was using one of my Tidewater reels with 20 lb test line and 15 minutes later I got the critter close enough to see the outline and determined it to be a 4 1/2 to 5 foot shark maybe 16-18 inches across in the head area. A minute or two later and the line broke. It was like having three cement blocks on the end of the line and at no time did the shark act like he was worried. Just lazy line running and around the boat 3 or 4 times. After that we roamed around inside and walked a few beaches. All in all a enjoyable good day and supper was very, very good. The bluefish and Spanish were excellent and so were the House Autry hushpuppies!
