Wednesday night. 7:00pm but pitch black. I'm sneaking up unlit and unnumbered driveways near Mt Holly looking for a score...the rumored but rare skinny milk crate. After entering 3 driveways enough to see the numbers on the house, I finally score! I see the crates stacked neatly by a garage door of an unlit house. I reach for them...Suddenly, I am blinded by bright lights. A car entering the driveway has me in the spotlights, seeing my oversized frame shiloutted against her garage. I try to explain to the lady in the car that I am not a criminal, just a guy looking for plastic crates.
Fortunately, she's brownac1983's wife, and he told her that I'd be coming that night. Whew! Could have been a bad situation.
Thanks to brownac1983, for the crates. We got them cleaned up, configured, and we'll be ready to go soon.
The belt around the crate is a wading belt that I got from a factory returned sporting goods auction. Apparently, flyfishers wear them, but for us, it works great to dress up the crate a little, give a pocket to hold first aid kit and snacks, and a place to store the fish hook remover and knife in easy reach. It also has an extra rod holder.
The open part of the crate will hold 3 plastic tackle trays on their short side, and we'll have the battery for the fish finder in the other side of it (when we get it). Should be a perfect storage tool for my boys on this kayak.
Thanks again for the crate, it's just about perfect for this kayak. When we get our next kayak (hopefully for me), we'll either use the other crate for that or pass it forward to some other kayak fisherman in need of one.
That's my 9 year old Jacob modelling his kayak crate.
