Catfish Rigs

What do most of you use for catfish rigs? I have been using bottom rigs but I am starting to believe they may be creating too much resistance so I am changing over to an egg weight slip style rig (carolina rig). I also want to float my bait off the bottom. I am thinking about just using a piece of foam insulation on the the leader for a float. Do anybody have an other ideas or suggestions? Lastly do you fish your rig with a tight line or slack line?
