River Small Piedmont Flow Produces

With all the rain, most of the local spots are a little high and muddy. I found one small flow that was just right and got into some crappie. Caught all the crappie before 9 am with a yellow curly tail (Cabelas 4" action tail grub) on a Luck "E" Strike 1/4 oz jig head. Lots of fun on my ultralight. I think the big one today is my biggest ever.

Caught a few bass as well on buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. Lost a nice one on a spook. Caught the jack on a spinnerbait. Soaked some cut bream for cats in a few spots and only got a few nibbles from the many gar in the area.

My little helper approves of the catch ...

Lastly, I saw a HUGE raptor today. Approximately 5'-6' wingspan. He took off from a tree just downstream from where I tossed my spook. I think he was initially going to swoop down and take a pass at my lure, but he quickly realized it wasn't a meal and headed downriver. The feathers were mottled (grey, black, white) like that of a juvenile bald eagle, but was very large. If it was a bald eagle, it's the closest encounter I've had. Beautiful bird.
