Met fellow NCANGLER Doc Love at City Lake this morning and had high hopes for a great day, what with the low cloud cover all morning, and when Doc caught one on a buzzbait right off the bat, we figured it was on! Nope. We fished all my fave spots, threw everything but the kitchen sink, and wound up with four bass. Doc caught three of those, including a fat one and a half pounder on a spinnerbait. I got one fish near two pounds on a Texas rig speed craw.
Bout midmorning we were fishing one of my favorite places, called the "Rock Dam", where when the lake was filled an old farm pond dam was exploded, and left scattered rocks in an area near east fork. I had one slug a C rig speed craw, and felt tremendous pressure as the big girl moved away. She surged, and, pop! The terminal line broke a few inches below the weight. To say the least, I was sick!
Anyway, it was great meeting Doc, and tho we didn't wear them out, at least we weren't skunked.
Doc is an amiable fellow, and we knew each other (but had never met) from our 790 THE BALL days on sportstalk radio.
Maybe one of these days I will stop losing big uns. That's three this year. Oh well..Keep on chunkin'!!
