Just got back from a 3 day trip to Bouge Inlet Pier. It was the worst luck I have ever had fishing. Thursday night I caught some sand fleas under the pier and started fishing at 8pm. I fished until 2am with the fleas and fresh shrimp and only caught 1 pompano and 6 mullett with the biggest being 9 inches. The wind was whipping out of the south west at about 20mph. Friday I fished from 9pm until 3am and only caught 1 pompano about 6 inches long. The wind finally calmed down around midnight. Saturday night there was no wind and my wife and I walked on the pier and nobody was catching anything so we decided not to fish. This morning my wife walked out on the pier around 8:30am this morning and someone had caught a 6 pound sheepshead. I think I will limit my saltwater fishing to just May and October. One good thing was that I got to eat spot and softshell crab for 3 days at the Sanitary Restaraunt in Morehead City. On the way home I stopped at a well known catfish hole and talked to a guy who had been fishing there at the "famous" catfish hole for about 2 hours before I got there. He had 8 catfish that weighed between 5 pounds and 10 pounds. I drove 6 hours one way to get skunked when I could have drove only 2 hours and likely would have had some decent fishing. Please don`t think that I am bashing the pier or its staff. They are great people that have one great pier. I know the reason was because of high southwest winds and the heat. When the water gets cooler in September and October the action will be great there again.
