Early Dec Neuse Report

Cold then hot – mixed up weather. Fish feel it too.
Trout fishing is still at a high! There are plenty of quality trout around with a strong showing of small fish too – next year’s fish. You can pick your baits of choice as I have had customers catching on Gulp, Fin S Mirrolures, and my DOA and Rapalas. The bite can be very subtle so line contact is critical for hookup. Most of the fish had been caught in the backs of creeks during the cold spell as water temps dropped into the 40s but an now be found out toward the fronts of creeks and even in the river. Stay moble and you will get’em. Remember that there is still a 4 fish limit per person per day – our local enforcers are doing a great job enforcing laws on both sides, commercial and recreational. Stay within the law!
My son in law Michael Carawan took his buddy Kenny Campen out for a great morning of fishing in and out of the creeks. They caught a load keeping a nice 2 man limit to eat.
I hit it by myself and stopped at some old spots finding out they are still great. Couldn’t have fished without the Power Pole due to the wind but once setting it down, I caught at least 20 trout with a solid limit of 2+ pounders. Mom said she wanted some fresh fish and I delivered.
Rock have been doing well up in the Neuse and Trent Rivers. Still slack in the top water world down river. Something keeping bait out of stump fields – maybe it will correct itself.
As winter progresses, don’t stop fishing. Trout can be caught all year barring a major freeze and rock action should stay active.
My shop customer appreciation day was a success for those who showed up. We had beautiful weather, great fish stew and good social afternoon. Marly modeled my shrimp earrings earning the name of Ms Marly Minnesott! Her mother also brought me a Crab Pot Christmas tree for the shop. Her mother makes them and anyone wanting one just needs to ride into Arapahoe and look for the signs. Thanks Amy.
I will be going into my winter hours after next Saturday. No regular hours but all you need to do is call and if available I will assist you with your needs. Charter trips will continue throughout the winter targeting trout and Rock.
Need a Christmas gift for your man? We can go small with a rod and reel or up to a Power Pole or Trolling Motor – or Guns too. Can’t decide, I have gift certificates. OH, let’s not forget our ladies; sterling and gold hoop shrimp earrings – check out Ms Marly Minnesotts picture. Other colors also available and even one that glows in the dark.
