Rigging large plastics; Info needed

Since i've pretty much gotten back into "bass mode" again, i've started using really big plastics. I'm trying to target only BIG bass. I know that you can catch them on regular sized stuff and that i'm still going to catch smaller ones on these larger baits but i'm really liking the new feel of using some different things. Problem is, i'm missing a ton of fish. Went earlier and had about a 5lb bass on and it broke my line right at my feet. Not the baits fault. But after that fish, i missed probably 10 hits. Now, this happens here and there anyway but i cant help but to think its cause of so much of the worm is behind the hook. Bigger bass ill inhale baits like this alot of times but the ones that aren't as aggressive are really starting to aggravate me. I'm using 3/0 and 4/0 worm hooks of a few different styles. But these still only cover a couple inches of the bait. Need some advice here. I've been trying to let them have it for a couple seconds hoping that the fish will take it completely in so i can get a good hookset but this causes alot of fish to let it go too. Im using plastic baits from 8" up to probably 12". Any help is appreciated. Thanks
