Fished Belews yesterday and caught a couple. Massive amounts of shad moving all around. Caught first one on a shallow crank on a secondary point. It was only about a pound. A few minutes later in the same area, I saw a big shad school at the surface. Bass started hitting them on top, so I cast the Spook Jr. and pulled it through the frenzy and caught the one pictured. Saw lots of surface action on the shad, but by the time I got over to the areas where they were, couldn't seem to get the bass to bite. Tried cranks, spook, alabama rig & shaky head watermelon candy finesse worm. I saw them out at creek mouths and all the way up in the backs of creeks.
All I ever hear about Belews is deep, clear water and tough to figure out! I thought I'd try it a few times with the water temp coming down and the shad on the move. Anybody fishing over there? Any tips on getting those bass to hit or should I give that up and just concentrate on other methods? Any info appreciated!
